East side companies worked a fire on Aspen this morning. Crews had heavy smoke showing on arrival from a 1 story single family dwelling that appeared to be vacant. Crews stretched two lines and had the fire knocked in short order. All searches were clear and after the fire was extinguished crews verified that the building was vacant.

Station 41 companies were dispatched for a Automatic Alarm in the 1200 block of N 4th Avenue. While responding, dispatch advised of a fire in the alley between 2nd and 3rd. Upon arrival, crews found a car fire. Crews also responded to reports of smoke in the building in the 1100 block of N 3rd Ave, which was smoke from the car fire. The automatic alarm was also due to the car fire.

Engine 95, Rescue 91, Squad 9, and Battalion 9 responded mutual aid to Westbrick for a Cessna that crashed on Interstate 64 in the area of Milepost 14.

Squad 9 responded mutual aid into Westbrick for the vehicle into a pond. One person was rescued, a second was recovered.

Companies of the 9th Battalion responded to Runway 26 for an Alert II on CRJ700 that was reporting flap issues. The aircraft landed safely, however, with the flap issue, the brakes were hotter than normal. ARFF crews worked to cool the brakes, and special called the MVU in to the scene

The Haz-Mat Taskforce and a Foam Taskforce responded into Westbrick to assist them with their extra alarm structure fire in a manufacturing facility. Squad 9 set-up and operated their snorkel, while the HIT Squad setup containment of the runoff. Crews operated for several hours at this scene

The 9th Battalion crews responded to an Alert II on a RJ145 for a lavatory smoke detector. The plane landed safely and was evacuated on the taxiway. Investigation turned up an overheated septic pump beneath the lavatory. ARFF crews followed the plane to a maintenance hangar. Passengers and luggage were brought to the terminal via bus.

The 9th Battalion crews responded to a pin-in accident in the 3000 block of Airport Road. The accident happened in front of Westbrick Squad 5, as they were leaving a drill at the airport. The accident was a double pin-in involving a garbage truck and limousine.

Engine 45 was out on the road returning from a run when they came across a commercial strip mall that had smoke showing in the 2200 block of N Eola. Company radioed to Central Dispatch to start in a Still Alarm and they'd be investigating. Crews found heavy fire in the rear of the strip. Crews had difficulty finding the seat of the fire. Fire was upgraded to a Box Alarm. Shortly thereafter, command pulled all crews out and requested a 2-11 Alarm. Multiple handlines and several master streams were used to bring the fire under control. Mutual aid was also used on the scene and to cover the town, as all Riverwoods companies were committed to the scene for several hours.
