Tower 54 responded change of quarters to Rochelle Heights while they operated at a structure fire.
Engine 41, Truck 51, HIT Squad and Battalion 5 responded to Westbound I-70 at Factory Road for an accident with injuries, entrapment, fire and a hazmat. A vehicle rear-ended a semi and spun off into the ditch, catching fire, with the sole occupant still inside. He perished in the accident. The HIT determined a container with an oxidizer broke open on impact and secured it. Meanwhile, the other Riverwoods crews assisted with extrication.

Engine 43 arrived first on the scene of a working fire in the 800 block of north Grace. Companies initially made an aggressive interior attack, but were pulled out by they 5th Battalion when conditions from his vantage point changed for the worse, despite interior crews thinking they were making progress. Crews then went defensive with 5 master streams and 2 handlines. The fire was raised to a Box Alarm, and stayed there, only because there were no exposure issues. This was Aerial Tower 51's first big fire. Much of the structure ended up collapsing during the fire. Crews remained on the scene for many hours, after extinguishing the bulk of the fire, chasing hot spots.

Tower 54 responded into Jackson Township for a working structure fire at 975 County Road 532. The Tower crew performed a search, removed some 55 gallon drums containing hazardous materials from the structure and stretched a preconnect to the fire.

Tower 94 responded mutual to Jakeland change of quarters while they operated at a fatal Third Alarm Fire in the 300 block of Oradell, Jakeland.

The companies of Riverwoods International Airport responded to a standby for smoke in the cargo hold of a cargo aircraft that was landing on Runway 5L. Once the plane landed, the companies found smoke in the hold, which ended up being a chemical reaction between a corrosive liquid and another package creating a cloud. HIT Squad 5 joined the airport companies to mitigate the incident.

Engine 44 responded to the 5000 Hampton Station Drive in Westbrick and acted as RIT. Tower 54 (formerly 27) responded to the same fire and worked with Westbrick Engine 65 to extinguish the fire in an exposure building.
Engine 48 and Tower 53 responded to a multiple vehicle accident with extrication on I-70 at MP 14.8, along with Westbrick and Portage. The highway shutdown and there were multiple injuries and three separate extrications at once. One patient was airlifted from the highway.

Tower 54 responded mutual aid to Brixton Fire for a garage fire in the 2900 block of Weston. The Tower crew and other mutual aid companies extinguished a fire in the exposure building

Devil's Night in Riverwoods was very tame, all things considered. Crews responded to 3 structure fires, a dumpster and a car fire.

Station 23 along with Engine 22 and Towers 23 and 27, and the Battalion responded to a kitchen fire in the 600 block of North Fairfield. Engine and Tower 23 arrived with light smoke showing. Engine 23 was able to knock it down with quick work on a pump can and APW, containing the fire to the stove and the cabinets above. Tower 23 opened some ceiling to make sure there was no extension. The second up companies staged and were returned quickly by the Battalion. Lucky day that Tower 23 was staffed due to training at Station 23.

While returning to quarters from an automatic alarm, Tower 27's officer caught the distinct smell of a structure fire from his open window. Upon further investigation, the Tower found a fire in the 400 block of North Charlotte. Tower 27's crew lead out a preconnect on a bedroom fire, with Engine 23 taking a hydrant on arrival and laying into the Tower. The fire was contained to the bedroom thanks to Lt. Sally's great nose. Engines 23, 22 and 24 along with the Battalion operated on the scene.

An automatic fire alarm was dispatched to 1200 Airport Road, the Hyatt at Riverwoods International. On arrival, crews were met with smoke on the Fourth Floor. The call was upgraded to a Working Fire, adding Engines 21 and 22, Tower 27 and Squad 9 to the call. Engine 92 tied into the standpipe and went up with high rise packs to meet Tower 94, who was first on scene and was the F.I.T. Luckily, it was just a microwave that shorted out and caused a minor fire, scorching some countertop and cabinets, but also creating a lot of smoke. A pump can was all that was needed and companies returned to service quickly.

Engine 92, Tower 91, and the 9th Battalion responded to a truck fire at Terminal 2, Gate 12. Rescue 991 was in the area and decided to respond. They were first on scene and found a work truck near the gate fully involved. They used their bumper turret for initial knockdown and then the 92s stretched a handline from a side discharge on 991 (in the reserve M1500) for mop up duties.

At approximately 2100 hours, a Still Alarm was toned for the 2100 block of North Lincoln Avenue. Engine 23 arrived and found heavy fire and smoke issuing from the second floor of a courtyard apartment building. The vehicles parked in the lot hampered access. Several rescues were made by Engine 23 in the early moments while they were on scene alone. Two rescues needed transport to the hospital. The fire went to a 2-11 and although started offensive, companies were forced to go defensive after fire took hold of the cockloft. One wing of the structure was saved with minimal damage due to aggressive work from the companies on scene. Companies on scene: Engines 23, 25, 21, 24, 28, Tower 27, Truck 20, Squad 9

Tower 91 was dispatched to assist Westbrick with a rollover on Xenia and 25th, they had companies committed on a structure fire in the area. Tower 91 was the closest unit. Tower 91 arrived on scene and reported an overturned DOT406 with 1203 placards, with an active spill/leak from an unknown spot. The driver was seen attempting to self-rescue. Tower 91a ordered a line to be stretched as a precaution, while the remaining crew attempted a quick rescue with a ladder and some basic stabilization of the cab. Shortly after rescuing driver, and before enough foam could be mustered to cover the spill, a spark from somewhere ignited the spill, explosively. The crews were caught offguard by the explosion and several crew members were knocked off their feet. After the product ignited, command requested a foam taskforce response from Riverwoods International, in addition to the haz-mat response from both Westbrick and Riverwoods to mitigate the initial spill. Crash Truck 993 used their snozzle with great effects to knockdown the fire. Crash Truck 994 also responded to enable a dual sided attack on the fire and speed up knockdown. Crews were on scene for several hours mopping up and standing by while the clean up company offloaded the remaining product.

Riverwoods companies were back at it. Engines 23, 24 and 22, Tower 27 with Tower 37 and Battalion 2 responded to a reported structure fire at 435 E Wilson. While en route dispatch advised companies of multiple callers, including the homeowner. The fire was elevated to a Box Alarm after the fire spread to a neighboring structure. In all, 4 handlines and two master streams were used to control the fire. There were no injuries on the scene.

Riverwoods companies responded to a structure fire in the 0 block of Franklin. Engine 21 arrived and reported heavy fire on the first floor of a 1.5 story single-family dwelling. Dropping two lines, Engine 21 was able to quickly control the fire. Tower 27 ventilated the roof. Searches were clear. The fire was quickly contained, but the house sustained heavy damage and was determined uninhabitable. The Red Cross was contacted for the occupants.
